Publish a podcast episode with the Listenbox CLI

When should I use the Listenbox CLI?

Use the CLI for scripts, terminal workflows, or an agent that can access recordings on your computer. It uploads audio and video, lists podcasts and episodes, and runs local YouTube synchronization. You still choose whether an upload stays a draft or is published when ready. If your agent supports remote tools and does not need local files, follow the separate MCP connection guide.

Install and sign in

Follow the build instructions in the Listenbox client repository. The CLI is open source. Once the listenbox executable is on your path, run:

listenbox --help
listenbox login
listenbox auth status

login opens browser authorization. Sign in to your Listenbox account, review the requested access, and approve the CLI. Return to your terminal when it finishes. Your existing team and podcast permissions apply.

Find your podcast

listenbox shows list
listenbox episodes list --show field-notes

Replace field-notes with your podcast's slug. The episode list includes IDs you can use for later operations. You need permission to write to the podcast and a plan that supports the media you want to upload.

Upload a draft

listenbox episodes create --show field-notes \
--title "An interview by the river" \
  --file ./interview.mp4 \
  --publication draft

Use your own title and file path. Supported recording formats include .mp3, .m4a, .wav, .flac, .mp4, .m4v, and .mov. Draft is the default when you omit --publication.

Keep the command running while it uploads and prepares the episode. A successful upload prints the episode title and its dashboard link. Open that link to review the media, complete its details, and publish when ready. See the audio upload guide or video upload guide for the dashboard steps.

If you have already approved publication, use --publication publish when creating the episode. It will go live when its media is ready.

Give an agent a bounded task

For example:

Upload ./interview.wav to field-notes as a draft titled “An interview by the river.” Return the dashboard link so I can review it. Do not publish or delete anything.

The agent needs a shell and access to that file. Keep authorization credentials in the CLI's local profile; do not paste them into a prompt.

The CLI reference covers podcast creation, metadata, episode order, collaborators, RSS imports, and local YouTube synchronization. YouTube imports need an active paid plan; keep their local session and cookies on your computer.
